Amilolo is a film group based in Ziling(Xining) Amdo, Tibet, dedicated to educating young Tibetans about digital video production and encouraging a new generation of Tibetan filmmakers. It began in April of 2011.
Our goal is to empower college students by teaching them video editing skills, training them in the use of digital equipment, and maximizing their employment opportunities. So far, we have trained 20 students and recruit new members every semester. We motivate our students to document the fast-changing lifestyles on the Plateau and encourage them to do more cultural work in their respective hometowns.
Over the past few years, Amilolo invited several international and domestic photographers and filmmakers to meet our members. These photographers also gave various lectures, presentations and trainings that enriched the students' knowledge and broadened their horizons. Amilolo receives consultations from international and local photographers on how to manage participatory photography projects on a regular basis. Amilolo often works in conjunction with instructors from Plateau Photographers (www.plateauphotographers.com). The PP team has helped Amilolo’s students and managers to improve their management skills and has also helped to run workshops on various photography skills.
Amilolo collaborates with international film organizations (www.khamfilmproject.org) and domestic film companies to produce different types of films non-commercially to serve local community needs. We also upload audio and video files online to make our materials accessible for global researchers. Our work has been screened at different universities and film festivals in China and internationally.
